Letter from the President

Dear colleague:

I invite you to attend the 21st Annual Canadian Society of Echocardiography Weekend from April 11 - 13, 2019 at the Toronto Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre Hotel. Once again, we have strived to develop an exciting and cutting-edge educational program for you, including aspects of interventional echocardiography, echo guidelines and the future of echocardiography and cardiac imaging. We have planned a program rich in education, and plan to provide many opportunities for you to interact with colleagues, friends and experts from across Canada, as well as our industry partners.

The Annual Canadian Echo Weekend is designed around your needs and requests over the past twenty meetings. This year we will explore aspects of interventional echocardiography and structural heart disease, the developing role of artificial intelligence in echo and cardiac imaging and echo for prognostication. We have not forgotten about our core functions, and have brought back our popular guidelines session and added a session on congenital heart disease. As always we plan to highlight novel and evolving technologies to enhance your diagnostic capabilities and improve patient care, including multimodality imaging.

We are excited to bring back our very popular ticketed hands-on workshops on 3D Echocardiography Made Simple!, 2-Dimensional Strain Analysis, and POCUS (Point of care Ultrasound) for Non-Cardiac Indications (lungs, vessels). The aim of the workshops are to enable the participant to get an introduction to 3D dataset manipulation for ventricular and valvular analysis, to learn how to do 2D strain in common clinical applications, and to introduce the cardiac ultrasound user to imaging for lung comets, pleural effusion and vascular abnormalities. We have recruited Canadian leaders to lead these sessions using equipment from both GE and Philips. The sessions are limited to allow sufficient interaction and support.

In addition to top-tier Canadian speakers, this year's guest speakers include Professor Bernard Cosyns, President-elect of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), who will be presenting a comprehensive and cutting edge talk on Restrictive Cardiomyopathy - Evaluation by Echocardiography and Multimodality Cardiac Imaging and my good friend and mentor, Dr. Jonathan Lindner, President of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), who will be presenting on Cardiovascular Molecular Imaging with Ultrasound. Our Young Echocardiographers of Canada, led by Drs. Christine Henri and François Tournoux, will once again host an Echo Jeopardy Tournament and a Research Poster Competition for trainees.

The faculty is looking forward to seeing you again this year at the 21st Annual Canadian Society of Echocardiography Weekend.

Yours sincerely,

Howard Leong-Poi MD FRCPC
President, Canadian Society of Echocardiography

Program Objectives

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the current role and application of echocardiography in patients with suspected and overt cardiac disease
  • Identify how novel and evolving echocardiography techniques can be applied to the clinical practice of echocardiography
  • Describe how echocardiography integrates with other cardiac imaging modalities to optimally evaluate the patient with suspected or confirmed cardiovascular disease

Accreditation/CME Credits

coming soon.
