I was hoping you could answer a question for me. Can Canadian general
internists do extra training to allow the to read/perform echocardiograms?
If so, what does this involve.

The answer to this question varies from province to province depending on the provincial requirements, and local hospital requirements depending on where you end up working.
However, the CSE does recommend physicians who interpret echocardiograms obtain sufficient training. You can refer to the suggested training requirements as per the "Guidelines for the Provision of Echocardiography in Canada".
