Hi, I am a practising internist in Ontario looking gain training in echo so that I may deliver a service that is needed in my area of practice. I would like to know where I could find out information on how internist like myself can undertake this 6 month echo course and become certified. Also can an echo fellowship from the US be recognized in Canada?
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
J |

Thank you.
While the new training guidelines will come out later this year in the CJC, the basic 6 months level 2 training is largely unchanged, although number of echos performed / interpreted, and exposure to current state of the art technology including contrast, strain, and 3D has been modified. Training should be provided in a level 3 university-based echo lab – which is not always easy since most of the training slots are taken up by echo fellows and cardiology trainees. Best is to contact the echo lab directors individually and see if you can be accommodated.
US training in an accredited lab is absolutely fine.
